InfoBus Sessions #1: Mood Lights
After months of anticipation, the question of whether to introduce Mood Lights to the game is finally being polled in the InfoBus.
The possible introduction of Mood Lights was hinted at in October, being one of 5 possible "Quality of Life Improvements" featured on Macklebee's roadmap for the future of Origins, though it was not mentioned again until the poll was announced this Wednesday.
For those who don't know, "Mood Lights" are a type of wall furniture that allows players to change the lighting in their room. They are primarily used to make the floor and walls of a room black but offer a variety of different colours to set the mood of the room.
In this, the first edition of InfoBus Sessions, we've conducted a poll to gauge the temperature of the Origins Community as a whole on the topic. Yesterday the link to the poll was sent out in the Origins Discord server, with the two very same questions posed in the InfoBus poll. The questions were:
1. Shall we add Mood Lights?
A. Yes
B. No
2. Should we add other lighting modes in the future?
A. Yes
B. No
...And here are the results!!!
1. Shall we add Mood Lights?
A. Yes: 80%
B. No: 20%
2. Should we add other lighting modes in the future?
A. Yes: 72%
B. No: 28%
It looks like the Origins Community is largely in favour of introducing Mood Lights to the game. There appears to be a slightly lower approval rate for adding other lighting modes to the game, which could be down to the vagueness of the question (what kind of 'other' lighting modes are we referring to?). After digging through the forums section of the Origins Discord server, it appears that Macklebee has confirmed that the 'other lighting modes' refers to the expanded functions suggested by user Folklore in this feedback thread. An example of said other lighting modes, either in the article on the homepage or in the InfoBus itself, would have been helpful, and perhaps the results of this poll would have come out differently had one been provided
The expanded functions would include, but not be limited to:
- The ability to darken an entire room, except for light sources (lamps, etc).
- The ability to set the mood light to automatically rotate through colour presets (with a time limit to avoid flashing lights).
- The ability to add a time to a preset, automatically changing based on the time you choose (fx. lighting the room during the day, and darkening it at nighttime).
And now, we wait. The poll closes at around 12 pm GMT on Thursday the 9th, so be sure to get down to the InfoBus Park to cast your vote before time runs out! Tell us in the comments below, what did you vote for and why? We'd love to hear your opinions on the matter.
