The Women of Habbo Hotel

When people talk about the history of Habbo Hotel, the stories usually revolve around rares, rooms or memorable events.

But Habbo has always been more than just furniture and trading. The hotel has always been shaped by the people who spend their time building communities inside it.

Over the years, many of those people have been women - from the early Hotel Managers who created foundations, to the fansite writers, moderators, creators and players who helped shape the culture of the hotel.

As Habbo Origins continues to grow, and in celebration of International Women's Day, it feels like a good moment to reflect on some of those contributions - both past and present.

The Early Days of Habbo UK

Women were part of Habbo's story from the very beginning.

When Habbo launched in the UK in 2001, it was led by Dee "Daisy" Edwards, who helped bring the virtual hotel to a British audience and establish what would become one of Habbo's largest communities.

Inside the hotel, players quickly became familiar with the Hotel Managers who helped guide the growing player base.

The first was ione, who joined Sulake in 2001 and became the first Hotel Manager of Habbo UK. Many long-time players will remember the console message from ione welcoming new users to the hotel when they first logged in. And nobody will forget how it was "ione's gift" that birthed much beloved rares such as the Throne, Holo-Boy and Samovar.

She was followed by Jibbi, who oversaw the hotel during a period of rapid growth and hosted many of the events and competitions that brought the community together.

Then came Callie who managed the hotel from 2004 to 2006 and became one of the most recognisable staff figures of the era. During Callie's time, the relationship betwen staff, players and fansites was particularly strong.

Alongside the Hotel Managers, other staff members were also well known within the community. Players from the early Habbo UK years may remember names like wenders who worked closely with teh community and helped support many events and activities that made the hotel feel alive.

At the time when many online games kept their developers behind the scenes, Habbo's Hotel Managers were visible personalities that players actually interacted with.

Hobbas and Community Helpers

Of course, Habbo's community was never shaped by staff alone.

Early Habbo Hotel's had a strong Hobba program - volunteer moderators chosen from within the player community. They helped answer questions, guide new players and keep the hotel running smoothly.

For many players, Hobbas were the first people they turned to when they needed help.

Like the community itself, Hobba teams were made up of players from all kinds of backgrounds, including women who helped set the welcoming tone that the hotel became known for.

Fansites and the Wider Community

For many players, Habbo didn't end when you logged out of the hotel.

Fansites became a huge part of the wider community. They ran competitions, hosted radio shows, covered hotel news and documented what was happening across the hotel - much like today.

For me, personally, I fondly remember HabboNews, ran by Newspaper. Her exclusive (and sometimes wildly incorrect takes) opened a window to behind the scenes of Habbo Hotel that many would otherwise never see.

The Rooms and Communities

Not every contribution to Habbo came through a fansite or official role. Some of the most memorable parts of the hotel came from the rooms players built themselves.

An early example showcasing the impact of rooms that many long-time players will remember is "Ask Auntie Ione" - an advice-style persona connected to Habbos first UK manager. Players could write in with questions or problems. The idea of "agony aunt" style spaces quickly became a popular part of the hotel's social culture.

Rooms offering advice, support or simply someone to talk to became common across the hotel. Alongside these were fashion competitions, adoption centres, help rooms and social hangouts - communities that relied on hosts who were willing to welcome strangers and keep the conversations flowing.

Many players will remember the people behind those rooms just as much as the rooms themselves. These spaces were often run by women who helped create the welcoming, social atmosphere that Habbo became known for.

Habbo Origins: A New (Old) Generation

With Habbo Origins, many of the traditions above are finding new life again.

Women continue to play important roles across the Origins community.

The Hobba Team includes Bab, activegirl and HJF, who help welcome new players and answer support questions. Bab also leads the Event Creator programme, helping organise and coordinate many of the events that have become a defining feature of Habbo in 2026.

Players are also contributing creatively to the game itself. Community member goob for example, has designed furni lines like Amberwood and Sheji which have become favourites among players.

Outside the hotel, creators like PiperxLove stream Habbo alongside games like Jackbox, creating spaces where players can gather and socialise beyond the hotel itself. And it's impossible to not mention HEY HUNS DJ FHaynes and the superstar team at RockHabbo.

Within the community, players like Meryl have also become known for speaking openly about repesentation and encouraging discussion about the direction of the community.

And of course - not forgetting our very own G30 (I nearly did :'( ) - our sole female representative on the bobba.me team and resident room reviewer. Representation matters, and G30 always brings a much needed perspective to how we do things here at Bobba.me.

At the same time, some players have noticed that visible female representation in certain programmes is much smaller than it once was.

Of course, in a virtual world built around cute avatars, identity isn't always obvious. Many players choose not to sure personal details online, and in 2026 gender identity can be fluid and personal.

Because of that, the full make up of the community is often more complex than what we see on the surface.

A Story Still Being Written

If Habbo has taught us anything over the years, it's that the hotel is shaped by the people who build it.

Sometimes that happens through official roles like Hotel Manager, Hobba, event creator or streamer.

Other times it happens through the rooms and games people built, the events they host, or the communities they create.

The story of women in Habbo isn't limited to titles or programmes. It lives in the many communities, traditions and friendships that players have built together over hte years.

And like Habbo itself, that story is still being written.

Help Us Remember!

Habbo has always been a community with a long memory.

If there are women from your Habbo journey - whether from the earliest hotel days or Origins today - who helped shaped your experience of the game, we'd love to hear about them.

Share their names and stories in the comments so we can continue recognising the people who helped make Habbo the community it is today.

Special Thanks to HabboAges, Habborator and Sulake for the use of images throughout this article.

Superb post as always, Matthew!

So many fond memories of female Habbos from the UK hotel over the years. Lucy (Paws92) stands out she seemed to be at every help desk I joined, from Tech Help Desk (Floyd) & Think Help (Impetuous - who was Callie!) to Habbox Help Desk. She really left a lasting impression.

Plenty of others too.. can’t remember all the Habbo names now, but shout out to Abbey, Kim, Chaz & Ashley. & of course Becs, Heidster & GlitterKat. Good old Habbo days! Very much missed. |
